The weather on Tuesday 9th June was very changeable with bright sunshine at times followed by heavy showers but this did not put off regular members from attending our June public meeting at Steyning Village Hall.
David Searle, Chairman of HDOPF, welcomed the speakers and thanked Hilton Home Care for providing the refreshments and the staff at the Village Hall for setting up the room and making us feel at home.

Ann Taylor, CEO of Hilton Home Care

Ann told us about her mother, who was taken ill, admitted to hospital, and later diagnosed with Dementia. Ann regularly visited her whilst she was in hospital and was surprised to see this once very active person now confined to bed, confused and asking to go home. Ann, who had a background in Social Care, soon realised that her mother improved once she was at home in familiar surroundings. This is when Ann joined Hilton Care Home. A study showed that 71% of people identified as needing care in a Care Home are well capable of living at home with a small care package.
Ann said that Hilton Home Care, which operates across Kent and Sussex, provides adaptable, safe, and reliable care delivered at your home. They offer exceptional, personalised support that helps you feel safe, respected, and empowered living in your own home. Whether it’s daily routine support, Dementia care, Stroke services, or end-of-life care, they are there to help.

Ian Alexander, Chairman of Steyning & District Community Partnership
SDCP is a community partnership company limited by guarantee. The aims of the Community Partnership are to maintain and improve the local economy and create an environment of which people can continue to be proud. The Community Partnership, working with community groups, in conjunction with local Parish Councils, identifies a project. Action teams are formed, and they seek grants from local and national providers to fund these projects.
Actions completed since the creation of the Partnership include: MicroBiz – A promotion fair for small businesses in the Steyning Centre. Leaflets and maps to promote exploring Steyning and the Town Trail. Steyning Festival is an annual event and is now organised by a separate group.
A project provides better visitor information, signage in the town centre, and works with Hidden Britain to design and publish 4 circular walks. A Food & Drink Festival is held each year, which helps fund the Partnership. There are many more projects and events, but this gives a flavour of those that have been completed.

Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding Community Wardens John Sampson and Alison Page

John & Alison explained that they are there to meet the community's needs through engagement and support. In particular, visiting vulnerable residents including welfare checks, activities and signposting. They are the ears and eyes of the community and make regular high-visibility patrols to educate, report, and, in some instances, carry out enforcement.
To help bring the community together, they organise and attend events and develop projects such as trips out when the Steyning minibus is available and a Board Games Café. Enforcement is not used very often, but recently, in cases of persistent anti-social behaviour, it has been used.
For residents living in Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding, please contact Alison Page on 07734 387889 or John Sampson on 07734 387888 if you would like to report an incident or have a chat about something that is bothering you.
